My Parking Lot Is Damaged? What to Do?

Parking lot is an enclosed shelter intended for cars. We generally call parking lot any space in a private property such as a house whose main purpose is to park a car. It can be underground, in the form of a cabin or a playhouse, but this term is rarely used to refer to a place to park your car.

The harshness of the climate, the weather as well as the supported weights put your asphalt to the test. Sometimes you can see irreparable defects that force you to carry out repair work on more or less large surfaces. So what are the solutions available to you when your entryway to your home or business is damaged? Here is the answer.

First aid for paving

While it is possible to carry out some repair tasks yourself, others necessarily require the intervention of a professional. The latter will know how to use the means and products necessary to carry out the necessary repairs. Its job is to delimit the surface to be repaired, remove the damaged surface, spread granular material to compact it. The final phase of the operation will consist in heating the existing mixture to promote its fusion with the new coating. Ideally, fill the asphalt to a thickness of at least 2 inches. Depending on the severity of the depression, removing the asphalt is still not helpful. The intervention of the specialist will consist only in applying an adhesion coating before applying the product.

Significant damage? Call a specialist

As with a small everyday injury, a damaged surface requires rapid intervention to correct the problem as soon as possible. This guarantees a greater longevity of your paving. Indeed, the small cracks favor the infiltration of water, the main enemy of this coating.

Thus, certain simple actions can prevent further deterioration depending on the nature of the problem. For example, if you have a small crack of lesser importance, you can fill the crack with a special compound and rubber sealer before letting it dry. The paving product will be more or less liquid depending on the size of the crack, hole, or cracks. If, on the other hand, you have a larger crack, you will have to fill the hole with a cold mixture specially designed for this type of operation. Note that this type of operation requires significant manual work in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Resurfacing: giving new life to your parking lot

After a few years of existence, it inevitably undergoes the effect of time and it becomes necessary to intervene. Considering resurfacing? This is often the best solution, but under certain conditions. First, the quality of the granular foundation must be flawless and you can notice that thanks to the absence of potholes, swelling or cracks. Then the slope and drainage must be maintained over the years and the ground level must be able to accommodate additional thickness. The work before paving will consist of just cleaning the surface to be covered and applying plaster to it before spreading the new layer.
